Our
naturalist adventures are quite diverse as they cover ecosystems ranging
from the Edwards Plateau to the Blackland Prairie.
On the rivers you’ll have an opportunity to view (and photograph)
an exceptional variety of flora and fauna, swim, snorkel or just enjoy
yourself in the rapids and deeper pools. FLORA
& FAUNA: The
flora of the Hill Country’s riparian environments is quite unique.
Moving from west to east, plant life ranges from a variety of
desert species to majestic Bald Cypress trees.
Viewing is great year round. In
the spring everything bursts into bloom while in the fall the rivers
become a kaleidoscope with the changing of the leaves.
Texas is big and can boast the largest avifauna of any of the 50 states. Three-quarters of all the species known between Mexico and Canada can be observed in the state. The Hill Country’s riparian environments are just the place to see a myriad of our winged friends including (but certainly not limited to): buteos, accipiters, falcons, ospreys, eagles, vultures, kingfishers, herons, dove, turkey, woodpeckers, flycatchers, swallows, wrens, thrashers, warblers, buntings and hummingbirds (just to mention a few). Accompanying
the avifauna, the Hill Country’s wildlife is rich in diversity.
Mammals (white-tailed deer, armadillos, foxes, jackrabbits,
ringtails, bobcats, beavers, raccoons, squirrels) reptiles, amphibians, insects and
arachnids are plentiful and readily observed.
